| The Valley Power Generating Station is a 12.0 MW
facility located in the town of Drayton Valley, about 120 km west
of Edmonton. This facility was originally located in North Folk,
California until 1987 when it was then relocated in Drayton Valley,
adjacent to the Weyerhaeuser sawmill.
The plant burns wood waste provided by the sawmill, without charge,
to heat water and create steam. The facility consists of one fluidized
bed boiler (Wickes Boiler - 1953) and one GE steam-turbine generator
(1953).
TheValley Power Facility sell directly its electricity to TransAlta
Utilities Corporation under the Drayton Power Purchase Agreement
Corporation, for a maximum of 10.5 MW of power - any additional
electricity is sold to Alberta Power Pool at market prices. The
Drayton Power Purchase Agreement has a term of 20 years expiring
on May 24, 2016.
